S P A C E || Automatic writing

16 April @ 8:00 am - 21 April @ 5:00 pm

AN ONLINE PROGRAMME. Discover four tools for writing quickly, without overthinking it. DK have been watching people pause and fret, worry and fear that their writing must be mussed over, must be fussed and fitted into some… Ideal. But it doesn’t have to do that. What matters in writing, at least to us, anyway, is communicating a feeling. Sometimes you have to just write a bunch, when you’re in the right creative mode, and the words will put themselves on the page for you. How do you get into that kind of a zone? It’s not as hard as you think. Discover the fun and delight of automatic writing. Break out of the rigid ways you’ve been taught that writing ‘ought’ to be. Let go of the Asian education that you got, if you did, about how ‘English’ writing composition has to fit a template. It doesn’t. You’re allowed to play. Let’s do that? Let’s play. Play with words. Meet word nerds. Connect with both, in new ways. When you sign up for S P A C E, you’ll get an invitation. We’ll do this for a week, the third week of each month. How do you sign up? Design Kompany

What’s an ‘atelier?’

An atelier is a workshop or studio used by an artist or designer. Design Kompany’s ateliers are hosted by Akira Morita and Dipika Kohli.

ATELIERS, APPRENTICESHIPS & ARTMAKING. Design Kompany is hosting popup zinemaking ateliers. Before fancy academic schools for art and design came along, there were ateliers. Encouraging hands-on learning by doing. Apprentices came. Artworks were made and sold. DK imagine artmaking was less commodity-focused* and more about the experience. And for those seeking training, it wasn’t about, one might guess, the expensive tuition fees that come with ho-hum professors (jaded people who’ve forgotten the meaning of their occupation—here I recommend Art School Confidential). Perhaps it was about the magic, if I let myself be uncool and optimistic, of Art. What it can do. How it connects us, across time, and distance. Let’s *make* something. Let’s play? View gallery >

*Watch the film Posthumous, for a great comment on this.
