Arists’ & Writers’ Residency – Raleigh

A popup event series and conversation salon set is in motion for Raleigh.

Designed for artists, writers, and designers to get to gether and talk, it will look much like Make 2012, in which we asked guests gathered for the free meetup in Durham to dialogue about making. ‘What is the creative process? Who uses it, what changes as a result?’ It was one of those fine evenings for connection, conversation, and discovery. I hosted the follow up, Make II, not long after, at Fishmongers, which was a great experience as the owners had shown support and I wanted to bring the conversations there. It’s like that, how I design these. If you show up, I show up. That’s part of why I have the application process, now, so we can talk about what you want to do ahead of time. And I can design something to fit.

Let’s talk about your creative practice. About art, or philosophy, or what you make. Generally, we want to dialogue with others about how you are making time and space to devlop and push the envelope for your own work, for your own creative practice. I’ve noticed making time for this kind of meta-philosophy can really open up how we approach things and I want to share that experience of how it can, with you. I’ve learned so much on these tours, away from NC. Since leaving the Triangle in 2013, I’ve been participating in artist residencies in Finland, Japan, and India. I’ve also been based in Southeast Asia this whole time. That means much change and learning for me and I am looking forward to mixing these ideas into the old conversation spaces with some of you who may be ready to opt-in to joining me. For connection, meeting, talking, learning, sharing and writing something new maybe, too. I publish a monthly zine now, Art & Copy, with members of a zine club[$] that is international and dispersed. That way I can connect you with some of the many fascinating people I have met on all these long tours.
