Call for Submissions :: LAYERS OF TOUL TOMPOUNG

DESK :: LAYERS OF TOUL TOMPOUNG

Give us a piece of the picture that no one else in the world would know

Design Kompany is open for our first-ever round of a call for submissions for DESK magazine.

This will be for a once-off special edition of DESK to be made in both our current A4 printed size as well as published digitally, at designkompany.com as a set of individual stories.

This special issue will focus on original, local design stories in Phnom Penh. For this edition, our theme is LAYERS, and we are looking at the Toul Tompoung area as the main neighborhood to highlight in this issue.

Tell us what you see when you look at this neighborhood. What kinds of layers are you finding? DESK wants you to share your perspective. Please use your own language and words, no AI, and we will help you with the editing part. Bring us into the place you know well, the stories of your everyday life, and the people around you in your world. Give us a piece of the picture that no one else in the world would know. We will publish it, alongside the works of others, in a special edition of DESK magazine with a thickness of 24 to 48 pages, where you will receive 2 copies for you to keep or share as you wish.

To get an idea of the kind of images we’re looking for, listen this fun interview DK’s Dipika Kohli did a few years ago with photographer Benjamin Nwaneampeh. ‘Tell a story, but make someone stop… See something different.’

Show us your best pictures, and inspire us to ask, ‘Tell me more.’

Thanks!

About rights

For this issue, your work will be published alongside other local voices in a unique, 24- to 48-page issue of DESK.

All rights are with the author, always.

Payment

DESK is just underway since March 2026, a unique and community-led publication with no ads, no sponsors, no NGO money and no strings attached. We want to tell your stories to the people who care. We have been working on a crowdfunding campaign but haven’t reached our goal, yet. If and when we do, regular contributors will be invited to submit something for a paid opportunity, and a reprinting with expanded pages of this issue of DESK. We can try. Be a part of something new and fun, light and curated to deliver the best of what we find in terms of our particular way of perceiving. Be original, but note we aren’t interested in things we’re not interested in, so we won’t contact you if your work isn’t a good fit. Art is subjective, so please don’t take it personally if you don’t hear from us.

Every accepted contributor will receive a digital copy of the DESK issue we make with your work in it.

Reading fee

No reading fee, but for those who can, feel free to make a donation. Suggested donation: 15$
