Making time for people to talk, talk together, and talk together meaningfully, over time. So that we have the thing that you need for great conversations to even happen: trust.
I shifted the weekly conversations in the Art & Copy Zine Club to Telegram when more people checked that box in the application section, ‘communication preferences.’
It’s just really important to group people according to where they already are, for flow and momentum. That’s just how it is, now.
HOW IT IS. Some people and I simply use email to communicate, and for a time there, some of us just met in person. From time to time, you have that opportunity to relax and hang out and make things if you want or not make things if you don’t. I’ve learned so much in the time I got to spend with guests in Cojournals over the last year and I’m glad that some of you who may be reading this and I and others are still keen to keep talking. Talking together, over time. About all the things.
I’ve always prioritized fun, and relationships, in my life, and sometimes there are moments where I wonder [deleted]…. or something fancy.
But I’ve met so many people, in West Cork and Seattle and Phnom Penh now, and in between those places, in other spots, mostly my own travels because I wanted to meet the world, India, the UK, Denmark and Sweden and Finland and stuff. I wanted to see. I even went to Latvia and Poland and Slovakia to make zines for S P A C E, when I was making them with people on the road. I remember writing ‘A Walk in the Sky’ about the High Tatras and ‘Love is Boring’ because someone really cool I met in Riga told me that’s what she thought and I began to come to understand quite a lot of things better, relationally, after that. My art is relational art, and conversation spacemaking is a living space for us to do that, together, and find the magic in it. I like it so much.
People, right, that I met on the road, and interviewed for my blog, here, and also for a podcast series that was super fun, and it was me understanding that no matter what happens, we need to do the thing that only we can do.
For me it’s conversation spacemaking.
