Fun is the point of it’

Design | Discover ‘Project North Star’, it starts with something simple

Update: Project North Star is now available as a virtual conversation salon for those who want to talk with DK about their ‘North Star’ in life. How do you find it? Use the experience and toolkit at DK to discover and pinpoint the location of your own North Star.

Meet me in S P A C E

Thank you for the conversations in S P A C E. We always learn something new when we invite, include, engage and connect with those whose paths we might not have crossed before, and I’m excited to keep doing so for newcomers to experince my style of hosting events and conversations through Atelier S P A C E.

Design Kompany started out in real life before social media took off, when we had a humble office and then a humble home office, after that, in Seattle’s Capitol Hill.

The big idea was to be ‘your neighborhood design kompany,’ see, Kompany with a ‘K’, because my name is Dipika Kohli. It got nicknamed by clients as ‘DK’, as you might have imagined. Naming experts say that more than four syllables, and this is naturally going to happen. So there you go.

Well, Project North Star is sort of a baby-step version of the full-on brand identity process, and it’s not for company owners who have a team that needs to get into alignment or figure out a strategy or anything hard core. It’s for individuals. Solopreneurs or people who are in transition. It’s for those who want to enjoy Design Kompany’s process of figuring out ‘who am I’ while engaging lightly in Dipka Kohli’s S P A C E. If that makes sense.

Think of it as the pre-event before a big meetup where you will very likely bump into a massively enjoyable conversation, but it’s short and sweet, and also, memorable. Because it’s designed to get us talking. Meaningfully, not superficially. Then, curtains, and we all go in to find out what to do with our lives and make it happen.

Making S P A C E for us to learn, discover, and connect

Atelier S P A C E is a project of mine, off to the side from Design Kompany.

We create real life and online space for people who are curious, open, and ready to try new things in a once-off moment. Examples are 16N, the conversation roundtable series like ‘A World Apart’, and the occasional popup to make zines with us in places where we happen to be. (Which, coming up next, is going to be Japan.)

I’d like to invite you to experience what it’s like to be part of the Design Kompany creative process. You can take part in these ateliers virtually or in real life if you want to meet up with us in Japan, at any of the ateliers we’ll be posting about. I’ll update this page as we go.

I like this design.

What we do in S P A C E

You can dialogue and connect with other makers and thinkers, who can then connect with each other in small groups of 4 through an Atelier S P A C E-hosted, safe, roomy, and easygoing conversation.  We do popup workshops where some of you will be ready to engage with us, in person. So many people from all walks of life have come forward to join these, at times and points along our journeys in Southeast Asia and Northern Europe from 2017-2024, so far, because our purpose is to invite, include, and connect a lot of different kinds of you to one another.

We’ll write and add visual content to co-create zines, with a main goal of connecting ideas and people.  Atelier S P A C E tries to keep agendas minimal, if setting any at all outside the framing questions, in order to nourish organic growth.
