Start with DK to reframe your branding: ‘What does it mean? The discerning audience will want to know’

I help people figure out their brand identity design, using our 6-step creative process to identify core values, sketch a concept that centers on what the value of a company or organization’s services and goods are for the people who purchase from them, and then, put together a strong ‘identity’ design.

  • DK’s post on the small business owner’s guide to messaging

So much noise. How will you distinguish your brand?

Welcome to the creative process

Mockups are so easy to use now on the internet, so it’s fast and simple. The trouble is, it’s too fast and too simple; I feel that the thinking that’s under the hood is where the real value comes into play.

The great ‘a-ha’ moments, I mean.

You can have these, after a few short, packed, and focused brand identity design sessions with DK. So much fun. Ours is a creative process built from 20 years’ worth of gig-based freelance work with a handful of clients each year, over the years, to refine the methodology and get more practice in dialogue that leads to ‘a-ha’ moments like the one I shared above. You see it when you see it. ‘This is who we are. This is it. This!, is us.’

A real design process involves diving deep into audience, tone, and message. I remember blogging about psychographics in the 2000s. That sort of thing hasn’t gone away just because we can use so many tools now to make things ‘look pretty.’

Sure. But… what does it mean?

This is where we can help.

Care to try Design Kompany?

We may be a fit for you if:

  • You have a strong suspicion that something could be more modern, or sophisticated, with your current marketing materials.
  • You have an audience that will identify clear, clean design with a sense of your brand’s professionalism.
  • You have been in business 5+ years.
  • You have a fair idea of who it is that most enjoys working with you, and you aren’t afraid to let DK call them up and ask them why. These interviews are very revealing, we’ve found, over the years, in helping owners get ‘out of my head’ and hear it straight from the clients.
  • You’re a verbal communicator.

What our clients say about working with DK

Here are 3 LinkedIn recommendations on my personal profile page, with details that share with you directly what these clients have said about working with me through DK’s processes. Through the years we’ve kept in touch. All of them are also people I consider friends.

The really wonderful thing about working with Dipika is how deeply engaged she is. From our first meeting, it was apparent how focused she was on absorbing my team’s story and all the little details that made us who we were. Lots of thoughtful questions and some terrific insights – my partners and I learned more about our own team than we thought we knew. I’m very grateful that we met and have stayed in touch all these years. The really wonderful thing about working with Dipika is how deeply engaged she is. Dipika has an incredible way of helping analytical and logical teams (or individuals) tap into their creative sides and think outside the box. Working with one of our teams, she helped us define our marketing plan to include more emotional elements, rather than purely rational ones. Overall, I would highly recommend hiring Dipika if you struggle with accessing creative/emotional ideas or are just generally stuck in mental rut. Dipika provided the ‘Time for Us’ service for my team at Kawsang. Beyond the ordinary team-building activities we used to engage in, Dipika did an outstanding job introducing innovative methodologies that allowed our team to set aside our work roles. She created a safe space in which our team felt comfortable sharing and connecting with one another about our past experiences, families, and what each of us cares about. Our team now sees each other as more than just colleagues. We understand each other better and have grown in our respect and appreciation for each other even more. – Channe Suy Lan, Phnom Penh

‘But… thinking about who I am sounds very difficult.’

Sure. Does this process sound like it’s going to be daunting?

I know it’s not easy to get introspective, but think of all the time you’ll save by knowing exactly when the value proposition is clear. No trying to adjust or fit in to someone else’s program. It’s ‘this is me’ and let’s get started, if it’s a fit.

I love when our clients tell me how they feel getting their fresh business cards printed, or sometimes, other materials as this is 2024 and not 2014. There’s an elegance, and a simplicity, when they can let their marketing materials speak up. Consistency. Clarity. Trust. Confidence. Professionalism. All of this can be communicated through strong, clear design.

Keep it simple. Less is more.

Minimalism doesn’t mean deleting everything. It’s knowing that what’s left is exactly the right set of things to have kept.

Sound curious?

Cool.
