In college, I had studied methods of building roads, bridges, skyscrapers, as in, how to do this. The nuts, bolts, road mixture aggregates, and trusses, the best to date of what we knew up to then in the field about how to design, how to build civil infrastructure. I liked this. I liked the math and physics, and the big picture overall concept of designing civil space for people.
It turned out to be the perfect major, to do what came next that led to things, and other things, architecture, journalism, world tours, that became an ethos here at Design Kompany.

In the third space, slowing down
Now, I do this too. Make civil infrastructure. For us to meet and linger and mingle.
Through experiential space design, through the art of dialogue and spacemaking for what may fall to hand as a spark of inspiration.
If the conditions are conducive to it, that is, to the art of learning new things from people whom we have yet to cross paths with. Designing for the art of the moment, one designful conversation at a time. This is a new, but not new at all, way of discovering, today. Sitting quietly, listening, looking, noticing, paying attention.
Places change but we do, too. Between the versions of the changing many selves, there are pockets of quiet. It is good to slow down, and see it.
Why, that is where it happens. Breakthroughs, insights, the sparkle of new friendships. Today, common space for these is… hard to find. So let’s make it.
Zines are a way to connect people, too. Here is one infrastructure to build bridges that link us, human to human, on a smaller scale than the bridges here. The river… on the list. A day of sightseeing, then… connecting people in the city. Naturally.
