It has been a little while since I updated this post. Let me share my most comprehensive musings with DK’s Art & Copy Zine Club communities, because the interestingness is more interesting when you share it with people who are actually very interested in these kinds of topics. Writing and blogging and tweeting and other things that, at the time of hosting ‘State of Publishing’ in 2011?, 2012?, were all the rage are, today, 2025, not at all the rage at all, to me. And a lot of people, I think. We want less ‘interesting online maybe’ stuff and more ‘I saw you at the place and yeah’ stuff, where it’s more real time, synched, and actually… something real. I think synched conversations are more the magic thing now than ‘designing conversation salons’ which is what I was up to when I hosted State of Publishing in Durham, NC at Mercury Studios, as pictured below. More to share with Art & Copy guests, who ask me about it, over Telegram or Discord or LINE or email. We don’t have to get together in person anymore. I get that it’s not that valuable when people are pretending, ‘performing’, and ghosting. Who wants that? Not me. Art & Copy is more fun.
